LONZA PERSONALIZED MEDICINE “COCOON” FACILITY PROTOTYPE

E4H teamed with Lonza to design a scalable cell therapy manufacturing facility prototype surrounding their automated “Cocoon” technology. An alternative to an open manual process, Lonza’s flexible closed “Cocoon” platform delivers enhanced efficiency and patient targeted product quality assurance. The “POD” design offers pre-clinical and commercial cell therapy providers a decentralized manufacturing model that reduces space, process time and material management risks that can be easily scaled into an academic medical campus and closer to point-of-care.

The plan shown includes 8 independent “PODs”, each capable of simultaneously manufacturing 160 custom patient gene therapies in about a week. Supporting the cell processing suite are Aseptic Processing rooms that can process about 8 patients per day.   Each POD can also include a dedicated Quality Control lab.
