PORTNEUF MEDICAL CENTER

Portneuf Medical Center had a vision for a new state-of-the-art facility to replace its two aging hospitals. LHP Hospital Group was engaged as a joint governance “for profit” partner to assist with project delivery. The result of this strategic collaboration is the six-story Portneuf Medical Center which sits on a picturesque site facing two mountain vistas in the Pocatello valley in Idaho. E4H was brought in to correct an infeasible cost, program, and schedule. The team reduced the initial program by almost 100,000 GSF without reducing key planning units and amenities. The total project budget was also reduced by $140 million by collapsing six phases over a decade into a singular delivery project. Additionally, the total project schedule was reduced by six months through fast tracking and early/parallel development of steel fabrication drawings.

The 403,000SF (367,000SF new and 67,000SF renovated) freestanding facility offers 187 beds (all private rooms), 10 operating rooms, two cardiovascular operating rooms, eight diagnostic modalities, three catheterization labs, and a 27-bed emergency room. Special attention was given to the design of sustainable systems, and enhanced safety and technology features. The hospital was planned with an internal circulation spine spanning multiple floors in order to provide outpatients with easy access to key services and amenities. Entrances, departments with high-volume traffic and parking lots were organized around this central atrium. The space acts as the ‘main street’ of the hospital with a centralized concierge (admitting), boutique coffee shop, grand piano, valet parking station, centralized food court and other supporting ancillary services for community use. The project received LEED Certification.
