MAINE MEDICAL CENTER P6 UNIT

Maine Medical Center’s P6 Unit is one of approximately 50 in the U.S. capable of providing acute inpatient psychiatric care to medically complex or unstable geriatric patients and is the largest in the state of Maine. This inpatient geri-medical psychiatric unit was housed in one of Maine Medical’s oldest buildings with many rooms still being used as four-bed wards with private bathrooms. The total renovation project provided space for an interdisciplinary team model of care, improved handicap accessibility and patient privacy, created space for visiting families, and added a light-filled 25-bed unit with beautiful views and enhanced security measures.
