CAPE REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER – CLAIRE C. BRODESSER SURGERY CENTER
With the intent to extend services on the existing Cape Regional Medical Center campus, the system identified a vacant parcel of land located on the East end of the campus. E4H was selected to develop a 19,125SF single-story, freestanding surgery center. E4H created a dedicated patient entrance, matching the façade of the surgical center with the hospital façade. The exterior design incorporates floor-to-ceiling glazing, metal and brick finishes, and a cantilever canopy to create a modern aesthetic that brings ample natural light into the facility.
The Clare C. Brodesser Surgery Center at Cape Regional Medical Center was designed with operational flexibility in mind. All Operating Rooms are designed for a variety of surgery types, allowing for easy updates of equipment as the service line grows and medical research advances. This strategic approach to facility design assists in the recruitment of top talent and allows the system to easily evolve. In addition to Operating Rooms (4), the state-of-the-art facility houses Procedure/Treatment Rooms (2) with a central sterilization suite and sterile storage, Pre-Op area bays (6) and PACU bays (16).
It was important to Cape Regional Health System to maintain a local community feel. Designers achieved this by creating large, open spaces flooded with natural light. Soft wood tones and a color palette of calming blues and cream tones create a rustic, beachy vibe throughout, reflecting Cape May’s seaside location. In clinical spaces, wall finishes feature a minimalist mountain pattern, and slatted wood ceiling treatments serve as visual cues for the nurse stations. Modern and sleek design elements were incorporated throughout the facility, with pocket lighting, resin paneling, and custom wallcoverings.
