THE JACKSON LABORATORY FOR GENOMIC MEDICINE

The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine (JGM) situated on 16 acres adjacent to the University of Connecticut Health Center’s Farmington campus, is a new four-story, 189,000SF research facility for 36 PI’s and staff. The science conducted here benefits from knowledge-sharing and relationships with a multitude of institutional research and government as well as private business partners. For example, most recently JAX has partnered with the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) to produce and implement educational programs, the first of which will launch at JGM to educate primary care physicians about cancer genetic testing. This facility is the first of many efforts soon to be realized as part of the state’s larger Bioscience Connecticut initiative, an economic stimulus plan designed to bolster the state’s visibility as a leader in the bioscience and healthcare industries. JAX Genomic Medicine will enable Connecticut to assume a position of global leadership in developing new medical treatments tailored to each patient’s unique genetic makeup.
