NORTHWELL HEALTH SOUTHSIDE HOSPITAL CONVERSION

E4H architecture completed the conversion of a Psychiatric Inpatient Unit located on the fourth floor of the Brackett Building into two distinct units: a 6-bed Pediatric Inpatient Unit and a 9-bed Med/Surg Unit. The two units are separated by the existing elevator bank and a group of shared support areas.

The renovation includes patient rooms and lobby renovations, infrastructure and security improvements, new office space, additional restroom facilities, circulation areas and shared support spaces. Relocated from the 3rd Floor of the Gulden Building, the new pediatric unit is child friendly and technically advanced. Natural light and colorful features and graphics liven up the ambiance of the space. Every patient room is single bedded and provides family support within the room and a Playroom with computers and diversion games expands the Unit’s therapeutic recreation program.

The new space also accommodates nine additional Med/Surg beds for a complex, diverse group of patients with varying degrees of acute care needs. New upscale hospitality type and well integrated furniture creates a welcoming non-institutional look while new flooring, ceilings and wall finishes increase the durability and resistance of the space.

The project received LEED Gold Certification.
