MEMORIAL SLOAN KETTERING CANCER CENTER – CHEMOTHERAPY SUITE

The expansion of an existing chemotherapy suite, on the fourth floor of the Laurence Rockefeller Outpatient Pavilion, was achieved by annexing an adjacent underutilized administration suite.

New standards for chemotherapy bays were implemented by designing separate rooms, each divided by a curtain to allow for privacy and amenities for patients and their friends and families. The new design added eight chares (for a total of twelve), one new chemo bed bay along with an additional nurse station and nutrition station for patients. It also expended the adjacent phlebotomy room, the blood lab and the waiting room, and added new amenities, such as an assessment room, a nutrition station, a nurse satellite station, and a dumbwaiter to transport medication from the pharmacy on the floor below. The project was broken down into three phases, which allowed staff and patients to continue to use the existing rooms until the old and new suites were connected.
