LONGVIEW REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER

Longview Regional Medical Center in Longview, Texas underwent a renovation and 175,000SF expansion that affected nearly every aspect of service delivery. The renovation and expansion required for several departments to move and expand in order to meet current needs. The expansion added nearly 100 acute care, private rooms; a three-story tower; and also third and fourth floors to the medical center’s existing tower.

The renovation and expansion included the following programs: The Medical Center’s intensive care unit was relocated from the first floor to the fourth. The operating room capacity was doubled from eight to 16 operating rooms on the first floor with the pre-operative area and the post-anesthesia care units relocated and expanded to handle the new traffic. The first floor was renovated to host a 31 bed surgical unit. A new main entrance and a new emergency department entrance were planned to increase efficient circulation through the new space. The 25 bed intermediate care unit, on the second floor expanded to 33 beds. Eight oncology beds were added, bringing the total to 41 beds in the hospital. Fifteen beds in the skilled-nursing unit on the first floor were moved to the second floor. Five labor, delivery and recovery rooms were added to the existing six for a total of 11. Thirteen antepartum/postpartum beds were added to the existing 17 for a total of 30 beds. Four triage spaces were added. An additional C-section room was added. In the well-baby nursery, 10 bassinets were added for a total of 24 bassinets. The Medical Center added a neonatal intensive care unit with 14 private beds and another seven beds in an open NICU ward. Rounding out the expansion and renovation was the transformation of Women’s Services on the third floor adding 13 gynecology beds bringing the total bed count to 43.
