GAYLORD SPECIALTY HEALTHCARE LYMAN AND HOOKER BUILDINGS

As patients progress during their long-term stay at Gaylord Specialty Healthcare, they transition from a modern building to some of the more mature buildings on campus. During this transition, patient satisfaction scores have dropped due to the older aesthetics and functionality of these buildings. The renovation addresses the concerns expressed by the patients for a more consistent experience across the Gaylord campus. Central gathering spaces were key to the design as they are integral to the care program. In addition, functional space updates to accommodate new technology, and storage solutions to optimize staff collaboration and workflow were at the helm of design decisions.

  • All patient rooms were designed to accommodate users of varying abilities. Customized storage, extended vanities and device charging ports at the bedside enhance the patient experience during their stay.
  • New headwalls consolidate placement of medical gases providing designated staff work and family/visitor zones. Additions of patient lifts in every room provide safe movement for patients and staff.
  • A warm, neutral finish scheme with small pops of accent color creates an inviting atmosphere of healing. The project utilized a “floating” luxury vinyl plank product, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming labor on floor prep.
  • Nurse stations received both functional and cosmetic upgrades. The layout was revised to accommodate the latest technology & supply needs.
  • A central gathering space adjacent to the nurse station, dubbed the breakfast club, allows patients to gather outside of their rooms while being discreetly observed by staff.
